Hospital Playlist kept the tempo slow and the story slice of life focused.

Story

A group of five friends who work in the same hospital finds comfort not only in each other’s company but in their band that they had formed ever since they were medical students. And, even though life is full of surprises, their friendship and music are some things that will never change.

Hospital Playlist had really slow tempo and took things a bit more on the slice of life genre than medical.

That said, there were some medical cases, but they were more like the cells of them to fill in the doctors’ lives rather than the focus of the story.

So, if you are looking for another Romantic Doctor, this drama is not it. But, if you are more into Reply 1988, than this one will be right up your alley.

Also, fair warning that there will be two seasons following this one in the following two years (assumably), so keep that in mind, as this season leaves some things open in the end.

However, the drama did conclude most of the open storylines in one way. And, even though the romance is not the main theme of the drama, there was some, especially in the final episodes, but there weren’t all of the love stories equally entertaining and smoothly paced.

Also, there were some parts of the drama that were a bit tiring, though the idea with the band and the songs was interesting.

Characters

Jung Won is the youngest son of the rich family that owns the hospital. His siblings all had chosen to serve God and he too wants to follow their lead, but his mother is against it. He is a gentle character, who cares too much about his patients. Yoo Yeon Seok‘s character was more like his old character in Reply 1994 than in Romantic Doctor, with a lighter and more playful personality.

Ik Jun is a single father who loves experimenting with cooking. He appears to be the more immature amongst the friends, but he is serious about their music and he cares about his family. Jo Jung Suk was great, as always, and he did a good job with his child partner.

Jun Wan is the quietest one of the group. He appears to be a cold character, but he is a gentle one in reality. He loves golf and has a crush on Ik Jun’s sister. Jung Kyung Ho kept the group of friends more leveled and he did a great job with his character.

Song Hwa is the girl of the group. She is a dynamic woman who can stand up for herself. She is sassy and she likes being independent. Jeon Mi Do gave a smooth performance and she added some sass to the friendship.

Suk Hyung is a happy, optimistic character who is having family problems. So, he finds shelter in his band and music. Kim Dae Myung was really sweet and handled the medical cases really well.

Cinematography

The drama managed the flashbacks masterfully and they blended the music breaks nicely in the plot.

Overall

My overall rating for the korean drama Hospital Playlist is 6.5 out of 10. The drama had a slow pace with a thinly spread story, but it had its moments.
