Liked! Hikaru Genji-kun was a fun japanese drama.
Story
Saori is working in an office and her life is pretty much predictable, with no personal life or social life for that matter.
However, one day, as she relaxes at home, a strange man who calls himself Genji, appears in her house. Saori calls the police immediately, but, as Genji is being taken by the officers, she has a flash realization that he looks like the hero of the Tale of Genji.
She decides then to let him stay with her until he finds his own place, as, for what she gathers, he doesn’t have anywhere to stay and he might be cosplaying. However, soon, she will find out that he might be the real deal, she the man has no idea about the modern way of life.
Saori will teach him about the new trends, having social media profiles, and colorful desserts. And that is when Genji’s rival, Chujo, will appear as well, and the three of them will start living together.
Liked! Hikaru Genji-kun is a fun drama to watch.
The first part has many funny moments and the characters are adorable. The subtle romance was good as well, however, it was never properly developed.
Still, for the comedy part, the drama was solid. Unfortunately, the final episodes didn’t wrap things up smoothly, as the whole fantasy part was left messy, as well as the mystery with the strange westerner and the time travel theme.
Characters
Saori is a hard-working woman who is a loner. When she opens her house to the odd Genji man, she will find herself enjoying his company and wanting to stay with him, even though he is bound to return back to his time.
Ito Sairi was really good as Saori and she didn’t overdo it with her reactions.
Genji is a nobleman of the past who travels through time and ends up in the modern era. And, even though he finds everything strange, he starts loving the new ways and learns quickly the modern life, being overexcited about every little thing about it.
Chiba Yudai was pretty funny in this one and he did a great job with his character.

Chujo is the handsome rival of Genji. He is more open about his feelings and his relationships than Genji, but he too is fascinated by the modern world he encounters.
Kiriyama Renn was a nice second lead and he had many funny moments.
Shiori is Saori’s little sister. Unlike Saori, she is bubbly and popular. When she discovers that her sister is living with a man, she is happy for her, while she is playfully teasing her about her. She starts then bonding with the guys as well.
Iriyama Anna gave a nice, smooth performance and was a nice addition to the cast.
Cinematography
The drama didn’t handle the fantasy mystery well, and the romance had a bit of a slow pace compared to the length of the drama, but the comedy element was well managed.
Overall
My overall rating for Liked! Hikaru Genji-kun is 7 out of 10. The drama was a light, funny mini-series with some nice performances.
