Japanese Drama Black Cinderella gives a nice twist to the classic school romance
Story
Manaha has been dreaming of attending the Miss Seiran Contest since she was a kid, though, she has low self-esteem and is afraid to pursue her dream. However, due to luck and her classmates’ cheering, she takes part in that year’s pageant. Unfortunately, an accident occurs and now Manaha has to find the strength to rebuild herself.
Japanese Drama Black Cinderella is a drama with a cute romance, but a strong main story about a girl who has to discover herself and learn to love herself.
The main lead, thus, had a smooth character development that was realistic, with small steps to Manaha’s journey of self-acceptance.
That character development was nicely blended with the school drama and Manaha’s struggles with her classmates and friends.
As for the romance, the love triangle was pretty enjoyable, with a good second lead and a cute romance. However, the main love story was pretty predictable, especially due to the drama with the second female lead.
Characters
Manaha is a girl with low self-esteem but a cheerful character. She tries to smile through hardships and appear like nothing bothers her when she is hurt.
Riko was pretty enjoyable and she did a great job with her character.
Keigo is a popular boy who is not only loved by his classmates, but also by everyone, as he is a hot young model. However, he is hiding many secrets.
Kamio Fuju gave a smooth performance, however, his character was superficial for most of the drama.

Sora is a mysterious new transfer student who likes to be by himself and read books. He takes an interest in Manaha and wants to help her out after a hostile first encounter.
Itagaki Mizuki was pretty sweet and had chemistry with his partner.

Yuri is a rich heiress who is also a social media influencer. She appears to be sweet and friendly, but, in reality, she is cold and ruthless when it comes to getting what she wants.
Erica was very energetic, and she nailed her dramatic scenes, though her character was a pretty basic evil second lead.
Cinematography
The drama had a whole-hearted first episode and a good pace for the rest of the story.
Overall
My overall rating for the Japanese Drama Black Cinderella is 8 out of 10. The drama is enjoyable, even though the romance is predictable.
