Story

Yusa Kiyoharu wakes up in a rundown cabin with the corpse of his police chief next to him. Yusa has been experiencing amnesia for the past months and he can’t remember how he ended up there and if he had killed her. So, he starts investigating her death. But, the closer he gets to the truth, the more he learns about his past, that is not what he believed it was.

The drama had a nice vibe to it, moody, dark and quirky. The relationship of the main character with the child was adorable too. Also, the mystery was intriguing. However, there were some problems with this drama that was a letdown. First of all, the big twist of the case was not as good as it should. It was too dystopian and it needed more time to be properly presented. Also, the link with the previous drama was only created by some cameos of the students, which could easily be missed. But the biggest problem of them all was the fact that most of the action of the drama felt like it happened off the scene. In that sense, every episode started with a quick summary of the previous ones, plus some fast-forwarding to the story which would have been better if we had watched them rather than letting things in our imagination. However, the action scenes were nice and the twists of the characters were unpredictable.

Characters

Yusa Kiyoharu is a snarky, moody and cynical realist who works as a detective. He thinks that he is being framed for the murder of the police superior, and his only ally to his quest to solve the mystery is the victim’s son, as his friends and coworkers have all turned against him. Kaku Kento was the star of the drama, with a great performance and an excellent character that was interesting and entertaining.

Usui Kaoru is the victim of the murder. She was the chief of the police department where Yusa works. She is a dynamic, strong woman who is raising her son alone. She, however, is hiding more secrets than everyone thinks. Horosue Ryoko was a calm force in the drama and she did a great job with her performance.

Cinematography

The drama didn’t manage the pace or the case well, but they did create a nice atmosphere.

Overall

My overall rating is 6 out of 10. The story was okay, but the drama didn’t pull it off.

I thought I had heard about a spin-off to 3-nen A gumi. Hadn’t realized it was this series! I was a bit flustered by the ending of the original, is the ending for this series more satisfactory?

    1. The ending was okay, had concluded the story, which had taken a more sce fi twist, but the very last scene raised some questions.

i agree, the characters are great, except the kid (sorry kid). the story started nicely, but it feels like the writer just give up halfway and put sh*tty plot through the end T.T
