Itoshi no Nina deals with a complex and heavy subject with a partial way.

Story

Atsushi finds that his friend Masa has kidnapped a girl he has been admiring while ridding the bus. He at first finds it hard to believe, but when he discovers the girl at Masa’s apartment, he opts to save her. After that, and feeling guilty about what have happened, he asks the girl, Nina, to become her bodyguard. Slowly, he will fall in love with her.

Itoshi no Nina is a classic Japanese drama. It has a tough theme, complex characters and an odd story.

However, even though the process of the story was smooth and well managed, the plot had a lighter mood than it should for the subjects that it presented. At some point, actually, it focused more on the romance and the cute moments between the couple than the victim’s feelings and process of the whole situation.

Still, the characters, especially the two main ones, were masterfully portrayed and the addition of the drama between the two friends was a nice touch.

Atsushi is a high school boy who is dealing with bullies at school. Being a sensitive character, he wants to protect Nina and set things right, trying to make her life a bit easier after what had happened.

Okada Kenshi is one of the best young actors nowdays in Japan and he proves it once again in this drama.

Nina is a pretty girl that doesn’t go unnoticed. However, her beauty has always been a burden for her, as that made her pray for men around her, which has scared her. However, she still tries to be strong and continue her school life.

Hotta Mayu was pretty enjoyable and did a great job with her character.

Kiyotaka is the bully that has been harassing Atsushi and his friend. He has a rich background and thus, he has been getting out of trouble easily.

Kasamatsu Sho left a strong impression with his performance.

My overall rating for the Japanese drama Itoshi no Nina is 6.5 out of 10. The drama was odd and sometimes it got boring, but the characters were interesting.
