Nurse Da Eun, who has been struggling with helping her patients effectively, as she feels overwhelmed by their emotions, as well as a disappointment and burden towards her colleagues, has a mental breakdown, after one of her patients who has left the hospital, and commits suicide right after calling her cellphone.
Da Eun thinks that the only thing she really needs is just a little time, even though it is obvious that she is suffering. She, nevertheless, takes a break from work, as she is instructed by her head nurse, and spends her days sleeping and unable to eat anything.
That alarms her family and friends, until Doctor Go Eun, who was asked by Da Eun to give her a few months to be alone before she makes any decision about their relationship, realizes that something is wrong, and tells Da Eun, when he finally manages to meet her, with the help of her mother, that she needs help, something that the nurse strongly disagrees.
But when she tries to cross the road and is almost killed by a car, her mother admits her to a clinic. That pushes Da Eun over the edge, as she thinks that she isn’t that bad and that she isn’t fit to be in the clinic. So, she refuses any treatment.
But, when she learns from her mother that when she crossed the road that faithful night she tried for a second time to kill herself and that Go Eun saved her, she finally understands that she needs help. So, she gets cooperative and understands that everything is related to when her father died and her mother took over, something that made Da Eun feel like a burden. From then on, everything snowballed into her finally collapsing.
But, with the help of the doctors and her family, Da Eun gets better and returns to work, only to be shunned by the parents and family of the patients who deem her unfit to work as a nurse. They actually start a campaign against her, but the nurses and doctors support Da Eun, who has a heart-to-heart with the parents, who are swade and let her finally be.
Meanwhile, nurse Deul Re is struggling to accept her relationship with Doctor Yeo Hwan, as her mother is back in the picture, asking him for money. She believes that eventually, she will harm him and that she shouldn’t be happy. But, Yeo Hwan, understanding his girlfriend’s concerns, stands by her and helps her to find a way to pay back her loan and to cut ties with her toxic mother.
She also discovers, after meeting an old friend who works as a dancer at a cruise ship, that she also wants to be part of the team and go around the world, as being a nurse was not her life’s dream, but a way to pay back her debts. However, she fears that if she leaves the hospital, she and Yeo Hwan will get enstrange. But he assures her that everything will be okay, and so she takes the big leap.
As for Yoo Chan, he has managed his panic attacks and feels ready to go back to the office. So, when he gets hired at a corporation, he feels the stings of his old demons coming back. However, this time around, he has the mechanisms to cope.
So, he puts his foot down and sets his boundaries, not letting the work take over his life. He also decides that he has to let Da Eun go, as he knows now that they are just friends. He supports her relationship with Doctor Go Eun, who patiently waits for her to feel ready to start a relationship and lets her come to him rather than chase her and burden her.
In the end, Da Eun does indeed go to him and ask him to start over, as she is now sure of herself and knows that she is strong enough to accept her mental health issues and ask for help when she needs it.
Overall, the drama passed down a strong message about mental health and how to care for those who need it. The short cases that were introduced were also interesting to follow.
