Korean Drama Like Flowers in the Sand is a sports slice of life
Story
Baek Doo comes from a family of famous ssireum athletes, but, lately, and even though he used to be a genius in his sport, he is thinking of retiring. That is when Yoo Kyung came to work as a member of the management team for the ssireum group. Yoo Kyung is mysterious and oddly reminds Baek Doo of his old friend and first love, who moved away when they were young.
Korean Drama Like Flowers in the Sand introduced the viewer to the traditional Korean wrestling, ‘ssireum’, through the telling of a story about two old friends reuniting with a mystery of the past looming over them.
The drama has slice-of-life vibes, with the sports element being well-handled and fully embraced. For that, the drama did a great job blending all its genres in the plot mix, giving all of them enough room to expand and be properly presented.
That is the friendship part, along with the family drama, the romance, and the criminal case. All of them were equally enjoyable and equally developed.
And even though the final episode kind of left the mystery half-baked, focusing on the sports part, it managed to wrap up every storyline neatly together.
The rest of the story was also entertaining and had some really sweet moments, even though, in some episodes, some boring parts slowed down the progress of the story.
Characters
Baek Doo is a ssireum athlete who is good willing, pure-hearted and friendly.
Jang Dong Yoon seemed to really enjoy this drama and he had one of the sweetest characters.

Yoo Kyung used to live in the countryside village and was friends with Baek Doo and his gang. She was an outsider and a source of gossip. Now, she returns as an undercover police officer to solve a mystery of the past.
Lee Joo Myung gave an energetic performance.

Mi Ran is the quirky cafe owner of the town. She seems to know everything about everyone.
Kim Bo Ra was refreshing and enjoyable.

My overall rating for the Korean Drama Like Flowers in the Sand is 7 out of 10. The drama had sweet characters.
