Story

Jung Kook is a con artist. His girlfriend has just left him when he meets Mi Young. They fall madly in love and get married. However, on their wedding day, Jung Kook learns that his bride is a police officer. From then on, Jung Kook tries to hide his true job from his wife, while their relationship is suffering because of it. One day, however, after a mix-up, Jung Kook ends up being promoted by the media of the country as a model of a citizen. That’s when he is urged to become a politician.

My Fellow Citizens has an interesting plot that might have been really entertaining. However, there were some things that bothered me. First of all, the couple lacked chemistry. That resulted in weak dynamics between them and a weak romance as well. Had the love story been better, the drama would have surely benefited from that. Another part of the drama that was tiring was the fact that some twists were repeated. They were entertaining at first, but after a while, it was easy to guess what was going to happened and it felt like deja vu. Finally, and that might be only me, but the comedy part was just so so. That, and the length of the drama forced the plot to spread too thinly. Therefore, sometimes, the drama got a bit boring.

Now, for some good news. The political events, with Jung Kook taking revenge on the bad guys and forcing them to admit the truth about their corruption, all were really refreshing and interesting to watch. The whole con artist theme was nice as well.

The main characters

Characters

Jung Kook is a con artist. He hides that aspect of his life from his wife. However, even though his job isn’t that noble, he is a quite fair man and he cares for others. Choi Shi Won tends to pick more comical leads, as they feat him the best. Here, he was really good, although his character needed some more work, when it came to the script.

Mi Young is a police officer who tries to reveal the truth. She loves her husband, although she doesn’t understand him. Lee Yoo Young was, surprisingly, good as a police officer, even though she didn’t look the part. Her performance was good as well.

Hoo Ja is the boss of a big gang that is highly involved in political corruption. She is the woman behind everything and controls everyone for her own advantage. Kim Min Jung had the best character of the series and she overshadowed everyone in this drama.

The drama could have handled the pace better.

Overall

My overall rating for this drama is 5.5 out of 10. Although there were some interesting aspects, the drama was a bit of a letdown.
