Story

Just when best friends since high school Sae Bom and Yi Hyun get into an arranged marriage in order to get an apartment, a deadly virus spreads that turns humans into bloodthirsty animals. Hence, the government closes their apartment complex and those around it to guarantee in order to stop the virus from spreading and figure out its origin. Now the couple has to survive not only the illness, but also the rest of the residents as well.

Korean Drama Happiness is more about the dynamics between the residents of the building than the virus. And that is proven by the numerous plot holes that that plot line has. Especially since the illness wasn’t throughoutly explored nor explained.

Nevertheless, the drama showcased multiple aspects of how people react in a crisis, with various personalities to cover a plethora of stories. Plus, the two main characters produced a lot of action scenes and emotion when it came to their interaction with each other and with the kid of their floor.

However, after the first half, the drama came to a standstill, with a little happening, and a new villain that was oddly added into the mix and didn’t offer enough suspense to explain his momentum.

Also, the ending was rushed and probably needed another episode so the closure would be believable.

Still, the characters were well presented and was easy to understand their connection with each other.

There were, in addition, few but quite thrilling twists, especially since the action scenes were nicely done and the CGI not overplayed.

Characters

Se Bom is working for the military. She is brave, reckless, and acts on compulsion. However, she is ready to do anything to help others, even risk her own life.

Han Hyo Joo was very energetic and dynamic.

Yi Hyun is Se Bom’s friend. He works at the police department and is friendly and a warm person. He used to be a baseball player, but due to an injury, he retired.

Park Hyung Sik did a great job with his action scenes and his more dramatic ones.

Tae Seok is an ex military man who works now at a pharmaceutical company. He is in charge of finding a cure for the illness at all cost.

Joo Woo Jin had a pretty intriguing character and he gave an intense performance.

Cinematography

The drama had the perfect pace for the drama and nicely choreographed action scenes, as well as well-acted ‘zombie’ parts.
