Korean Drama Run On is a healing slice of life with a slow tempo

Story

Seon Gyeom and Mi Joo keep meeting under the oddest circumstances. Seon Gyeom is a runner who is facing a dilemma. Mi Joo is a movie translator who is struggling to get by. However, even though they are totally different, they will find comfort in one another. Meanwhile, Dan Ah, an heiress who is fighting to keep what is rightfully hers, gets obsessed with the paintings of Young Hwa, an art student who falls head over heels for her.

Korean Drama Run On is a slow burn romance, presenting the story of four different people whose lives entangle.

First of all, the romance was nice, with a realistic twist and a slow pace. However, in the end, it was just boring, with few bursts of excitement.

Still, one should appreciate that there was no love triangle. The big twists in the relationship, actually, came from more natural causes, like work and family.

The rest of the story focused on the second couple and their struggles. At times, though, they over-shined the main couple and were the only source of interest in the episode.

Except for the romance, the plot was lukewarm. It was entertaining and intense at first, with the sports thriller and the family issues. However, the drama kept dragging and dragging the story, and, in the end, only a few things happened and everything was rushly resolved.

Characters

Seon Gyeom has always cared about everyone around him but himself. He has been a dutiful son to his famous parents, a good friend, and a silver medal athlete. However, when he witnesses injustice in the running club, he doesn’t hesitate to risk his career to make things right.

Im Shi Wan gave a smooth performance and he was enough subtle and intense when needed. However, his character was written to be a bit odd, but it wasn’t presented like that.

Mi Joo is passionate about movies and her work. She often sacrifices meals and hours of sleep to work on projects. Mi Joo grew up as an orphan and she has learned to fend for herself and work hard to achieve her goals.

Shin Se Kyung was great as the female lead. She also nailed her english dialogues. Her character was probably the most authentic, as she was geniun a fan of cinema and movies.

Dan Ah is a realist who sees everything as business transactions. Being deprived of her birthrights due to her gender, she doesn’t open easily to people.

Choi Soo Young presented her character with overflowing energy and charm. However, at times, her quirkiness felt forceful.

Young Hwa has a friendly personality, being outgoing and optimistic and expressing himself through his paintings. He falls in love with Dan Ah, even though she seems not to really care about him.

Kang Tae Oh was playful and gave a sweet twist to the drama.

Cinematography

The drama had a nice atmosphere, but they added too many product placements that were obvious and sometimes whole scenes were created only for the placement purpose.

Overall

My overall rating for the Korean Drama Run On is 6.5 out of 10. The drama had a nice atmosphere, but a weak plot.
