The ‘meet cute’ of the couple of the korean drama Crash Landing on You

Story

Se Ri is rich, beautiful, successful and hated by her family and employees. When her father is naming her the new CEO of their empire, her brothers don’t seem that happy. But Se Ri wouldn’t care less. And just before she takes the reins of the company, she goes to her favorite sport, paragliding. However, due to strong winds, she lands on North Korean ground. There, she is found by Jung Hyuk, an army officer who takes pity on her and decides to help her. So, he takes her to his house, and they pretend that they are engaged to be married, so they will not get everyone in the village suspicious. And as Se Ri is trying to blend in while waiting for Jung Hyuk to find a way for her to return home, she starts bonding not only with Jung Hyuk’s men and the women of the village but with Jung Hyuk too. However, getting her to South Korea proves to be more difficult and dangerous than they anticipated, as hidden motives and secret enemies lurk everywhere, even back at Se Ri’s home.

Crash landing on you had a so so first episode, where they were trying to get everything presented, from Se Ri’s family to her lifestyle and princess character and her accident. However, the rest of the drama was breathtakingly great. The cohabitation situation was funny and cute at the same time. The melodrama was spot on in this drama too, with enough drama, slice of life, romance, and tragedy in a good mix with action scenes to keep things interesting and entertaining, The crime and mystery plot lines were pretty good too. The funny moments were mainly produced by the soldiers and the side characters, but they were cute overall. So, even though the presentation of North Korea might not have been accurate, but it worked for the story and its progress.

The second part of the drama, however, was not as good. The romance got more cheesy and the action was focused in a few sequences only, though it was intense. It was the side characters’ time to shine in this part, with the soldiers being adorable and funny. The second couple had some moments too and their relationship finally had some progress, though their ending was horrible, as it was rushed and like they wanted just to end things one way or another. The main couple’s ending was good though, at least as good as it could get. Another thing that didn’t work for the drama was the leading lady’s family situation. The viewer goes in by knowing that there is bad blood between them, but they never present her background, or why they were in bad terms, or her relationship with her mother.

The main characters of the korean drama Crash Landing on You

Characters

Se Ri is a posy, arrogant and rich woman whom her employees call picky princess. She looks cold and bossy, but she is isolated from her family, she has no friends and has boyfriends only when she needs to create attention to herself. After hiding in North Korea, she learns that life is more than expensive wines and power struggles, and she starts appreciating the people around her and her relationships. Son Ye Jin was pretty good with her dramatic scenes as well as the romantic ones, as she had intense chemistry with her costar.

Jung Hyuk wanted to be a pianist, but, after his brother’s death, he dedicated his life to the military. Even though his family is well off, he still loves the simple way of life. He is also companionate, friendly and resourceful, as well as brave and capable to do anything for his loved ones. Hyun Bin was possibly as good as he was in Secret Garden, finding the perfect character that he can pull amazingly off.

Seo Dan is Jung Hyuk’s fiancé. She is from a rich family, with a good name, and she has been in love with Jung Hyuk since they were in high school, though he never really paid attention to her. She is dynamic, cold, and clever, though she is lonely and she just wants to be loved. Seo Ji Hye was the perfect ice queen and she did a nice job with her performance, managing to make the second lead from unlikable to adorable.

Seung Jun is a con artist. He was planning to marry Se Ri in order to get revenge on her father who had taken everything from his family and left him struggling to survive. Seung Jun had a difficult childhood and a messy life, always looking over his shoulder and never really forming a meaningful relationship. Kim Jung Hyun was a top-notch second lead and his character deserved better.
