Story

Geum Soon was separated from her husband and son during the Korean War. Since then, she founded a hotel that had become a huge hotel chain, while hoping that that will bring her lost family back to her. Now, years later, she is terminally ill and her only wish is to be reunited with her grandson, Moon Sung, who lives in North Korea. However, Moon Sung is a troubled young man and Geum Soon’s left-hand man, Sang Cheol, doesn’t trust him. So, he discovers Jae Heon, an actor who often acts as a North Korean Soldier in the theater. Sang Cheol hires Jae Heon to pose as Moon Sung, however, the actor will have to deal now with more than just a loving grandmother.

Korean Drama Curtain Call is a family melodrama with an intense story.

The beginning of the drama is quite emotional, as the story is introduced and the plan is hatched.

In addition, the relationship between the grandmother and the fake Moon Sung is very strong and supported the whole drama when things got bleak. It is also what prompts the character development of the main characters.

However, there were some things that didn’t work in favor of the drama.

The romance, for instance, was unnecessary and it shifted the focus from what was important, the family drama, to the main couple and, even, to the love triangle.

The love story itself was boring and badly handled, especially since the leading lady thought that her love interest was her cousin.

Also, how the real Moon Sung was developed and treated was questionable. They put more weight on the fake Moon Sung and tried to make the real grandson the bad guy in order to support that viewpoint.

At least, the ending wrapped up mostly everything successfully.

Overall

My overall rating for the Korean Drama Curtain Call is 6 out of 10. Although the drama is sweet, the romance was unnecessary.
