Story

Do Hee and Hae Kyung keep meeting. And, even though they know nothing about each other, they start an unconventional relationship, healing each other. However, their lives will be disturbed when their exes will come back and try to get back together.

Dinner Mate was not about food. Yes, the title suggests that the two main characters will have dinner together. However, that happens rarely in the course of the drama.

As for the actual story, the drama started with a bang. The two characters meet when the female lead has a horrible breakup with her boyfriend, with whom she was hoping of getting married.

And then they just keep meeting. That trop, along with the side story of the homeless man, were probably the highlights of the drama. Maybe the whole psychological background of the exes could be added to the mix of the things the drama did right.

However, the rest of it was a mess. The drama kept using cliche twists halfway through and till the finale. There was nothing interesting to be added to the plot and the drama ended up being tiring to watch.

The biggest problem of the drama, however, was the focus on the exes. At first, they just gave intensity and some dramatic moments to the story. They challenged the main love story and the characters themselves.

Soon, unfortunately, they got boring. Especially the girl’s ex, who was too insisting, even though she made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with him. He was annoying and irritating for no reason.

In addition, the romance was just okay. The pace was messy, as they started slowly, and then they were rushed into it. The romantic moments kept being interrupted by the exes and the whole relationship was just not enjoyable.

Do Hee works at an online broadcasting company, where they create streaming videos. She loves being independent and enjoying life by her own rules. However, she has no luck when it comes to love, especially since her ex boyfriend disappeared without giving reasons why he broke up with her.

Seo Ji Hye‘s character was one of the best things that the drama had to offer. She was delightful to watch, as she was a breath of fresh air when it comes to strong female leads.

The least one can say about Lee Ji Hoon‘s character is that he was endearing. However, the actor did a really good job with his performance.
