Typical family drama, with a splash of a political theme.
Story
Dae Han’s only dream is to become a lawmaker. However, due to his selfish character, he doesn’t win the elections. So, for the past couple of years, he does odd jobs, while waiting for his opportunity to reenter the election race. One night, however, a young girl, Da Jung, shows up to his place with her three siblings and announces him that she is his daughter. Da Jung’s mother was in a brief relationship with Dae Han in the past and she raised Da Jung and her three other children all on her own. Unfortunately, their mother died in a hit and run and the kid’s father, a dirtbag, is missing. So, Da Jung is the only one who takes care of them.
Even though in the beginning, Dae Han is surprised, eventually he takes them in. He also uses his image of the perfect dad to rise in popularity and win the elections. However, his plan starts to crumble down when the real father of the children comes back, demanding money or to take the children away, and when Da Jung discovers that she is pregnant.
Dae Han’s character development, although predictable, was pretty entertaining. The drama slowly built a family for him, while creating strong bonds between him and the children. Also, they didn’t emphasize the romance, which was a smart move as they focused more on the family dynamics. The political factor was interesting too; however, it was not that original. The final conclusion was good overall and heartwarming.
Characters
Dae Han is an ambitious man who can make lemonade out of lemons. He embraces, eventually, hid new family and start prioritizing the right people over his career. Song Seung Heon was pretty good as a dad and politician and had nice chemistry with the kids.
Da Jeong is a bright and optimistic high school student who is much more mature for her age. She loves her family and protects her siblings while putting up with her nasty school mates. Noh Jung Eui was adorable and she gave a pretty emotional performance.
Cinematography
The drama had an overall nice story, but the pacing was a bit slow at times and, towards the ending, the story was just thinly spread over the final episodes.
Overall
My overall rating is 6 out of 10. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t original.
