Story

Ah Yi is a high school student who, even though she is on the top rank of her school, lives alone with her younger sister and has trouble getting by, managing to live by part-time jobs. One day she meets a mysterious magician, Lee Eul, who will introduce her to the world of magic.

Korean Drama The Sound of Magic is a truly magical drama. The atmosphere was spot on and the settings, SGI, and costumes were all perfect for the mood of the story.

As for the main plot, it’s bittersweet, with a dramatic beginning and a smooth ending.

The musical parts, in addition, were nicely embedded into the story and gave another dimension to the drama.

Finally, the romance was subtle and only there to aid to the characters’ development, though the love story was not the main act of the drama.

Characters

Ah Yi is a poor student who is struggling to get by, supporting her little sister and making ends meet by having multiple jobs and economizing. And still, she is one of the best students in her school.

Choi Sung Eun was emotional and energetic.

Ri Eul is a magician who is passionate about his magic and cares for others, though he himself is a mystery.

Ji Chang Wook gave a great performance and he nailed his musical scenes.

Il Deung is a student who is pressured by his parents to be the perfect son, and to be the best one in his school. However, after meeting Ah Yi, he starts wanting more.

Hwang In Youp did a great job with his character.

The musical scenes were handled masterfully and smoothly. And as for the cinematography, it was truly magical.

Overall

My overall rating for the Korean Drama The Sound of Magic is 7 out of 10. The drama had beautiful cinematography.
