Korean Drama Welcome to Samdalri has a heartwarming family story

Story

Sam Dal, who has left her island to pursue a photographer’s career, is forced to move back with her parents when a scandal ruins everything she has ever built. There she will meet her ex, Yong Pil, who has opted to live in their hometown, and old feelings will start resurfacing.

Korean Drama Welcome to Samdalri is a slice-of-life melodrama with a family drama to boot.

The story is heartwarming, especially when it comes to the family bonds and the trauma of the past that still looms over the main characters.

However, the story of the main characters was boring, predictable, and less interesting compared to the stories of the side characters. Especially the love story, which was okay, but not enjoyable enough to support the whole drama. Also, the love triangle was badly handled.

The comedy aspect, on the other hand, was nicely embedded in the story and offered some moments of relief.

Characters

Sam Dal is a talented photographer who has been unfairly ousted from the field. She is suffering from the loss and she is trying to pick up her pieces while maintaining her pride.

Shin Hye Sun did a great job, as always, but her character was annoying.

Watch Shin Hye Sun in her other dramas KDrama See You in My 19th Life, KDrama Mr. Queen, KDrama Angel’s Last Mission: Love, K Drama The Hymn to Death, and K Drama Thirty but Seventeen

Yong Pil is a weather forecaster who is everyone’s man to call when they need something. He is friendly and kindhearted.

Ji Chang Wook gave a nice performance, but his character was one-dimensional.

Watch Ji Chang Wook’s other works KDrama The Worst of Evil, KDrama If You Wish Upon Me, KDrama The Sound of Magic, KDrama Lovestruck in the City, KDrama Backstreet Rookie, and KDrama Melting me Softly
