Korean Drama The King’s Affection gives a new twist to the classic historical romance

Story

Da Mi was sent as an infant away, as she was born as a twin from the royal consort. Later on, she comes back to the palace as a maid, but, after her brother’s death, her mother asks her to take his place, due to her similarity with her late brother. So, since then, Da Mi lived as a boy and as the crown prince, keeping herself distant from everyone, until she reunites with her first love, and now her teacher.

Korean Drama The King’s Affection is a drama that utilizes the overused trop that many dramas’ in the past have presented, some of them quite successfully.

In this one, the trop takes a more serious turn, and not as comical as those in the past, with the leading lady being unable to live her own life and being forced to play a very dangerous game of power and secrets.

The drama also uses the romance splendidly, though it is often overshadowed by the political intrigues. On the other hand, the love triangle was boring and predictable.

And though the story handled the cross-dressing part masterfully, there were moments when the twists got tiring and the drama dragged.
