Story

Dan Oh is rich and pretty, but she is suffering from a heart disease. She is engaged to Baek Kyung, her first love, who dislikes her. One day, Dan Oh starts experiencing gaps in her memory, as she jumps from one event to another, or one day to another. At first, she thinks that she is going crazy. But then she learns from Mi Chae, a boy who works at the school cafeteria, that she is a character in a korean webtoon called “Secret”. And that’s not just it. She is also a side character!

Dan Oh’s concept as a character is to have an unrequited love for Baek Kyung, while battling her incurable disease that won’t let her live past her teenage years. However, Dan Oh doesn’t want to settle for that and to let the writer determent her own life story. So, she starts acting up, struggling to change her plot line. But, her plan never works, like Mi Chae keeps pointing out. That is until she meets a nameless boy who has the power to change her story. However, like most of the characters, that boy is not aware that he is in a webtoon and so his memory lasts only for a scene.

The idea behind the drama’s story was actually interesting and unique. Moreover, they managed to pull it off. The fact that they didn’t start the romance right from the beginning helped a lot as well, because they left room for the mystery of the webtoon world and the presentation of the characters. The side characters were adorable too and they were entertaining and had nice friendship dynamics. So, overall, the drama had a nice pace that allowed the characters to get to know each other and thus the twists worked as well as the romance got more intense. In addition, the ending was good, as they kept it in the premises of the drama’s mood.

Characters

Dan Oh is bright, sassy and bubbly. On top of that, she is a fighter and she won’t let the writer determent her own story. Kim Hye Yoon was pretty good, however her character tended to be annoying when she was acting cute.

Haru is a nameless character in the “Secret” webtoon. He starts being aware of who he is due to  Dan Oh’s efforts. And, because of that, he feels close to her and he falls for her, deciding to help her change her story. Rowoon’s first leading role and he was great.

Baek Kyung is a cold, unapproachable boy who is forced by his father to marry Dan Oh in order to get her money once she dies. He hates himself for doing it and loathes Dan Oh because she is in love with him. Lee Jae Wook was the “bad” boy of the drama and he had nice chemistry with Kim Hye Yoon.

Cinematography

The drama presented the story beautifully and the SGI were great.

Overall

My overall rating is 9 out of 10. The story was interesting till the very end.
