Story

Ji Soo is an ace student, but he hides his poor living situation. To survive, he has been running an illegal business through his phone, with which, he is managing young women to meet up with men under payment. And, to make sure that they will be safe, he provides them with an emergency call for help that turns on a tracker that enables a man who works for Ji Soo to find them and save them.

However, things take a bad turn when Ji Soo’s classmate and the girl he likes, Gyu Ri, steals his phone and finds about his enterprise. And now, she wants a piece of the action. Unfortunately, she is not the only one, and, as things get out of control, Ji Soo falls deeper and deeper into the world of crime, where there is no turning back.

Extracurricular is not for everyone. It deals with many issues, mostly illegal, so if one is not comfortable with violence, or sensitive matters, or just wants to be entertained with a light story, then this one is not what they should opt for.

The drama takes a different turn compared to most of the school dramas, with a poor male lead who is running a trafficking business. It gets frustrating at times, as things often get over his head and he can’t really handle what he has become. So, even though the story is dark, it was well written and interesting.

However, despite the fast, almost breathtaking, pace and the well crafted twists, the drama lacked emotion. The viewer is hard to sympathize with the characters, as, most of them, were annoying and with behaviors that were kind of unrealistic for teenagers.

The drama also managed to be tedious at times, and, in the end, there were a few things that kept the plot entertaining and thrilling. The ending, nevertheless, was nicely played.

Characters

Ji Soo is a brilliant high school student who excels at class. However, Ji Soo lives alone, trying to survive by handling an illegal business, for which he is the genius brainiac behind every operation. However, after he loses everything, he is forced to start again, and allow himself to stop being a loner.

Kim Dong Hee is a brilliant actor and one of the young korean talents, however, his character was frustrating and boring and not the genius that he was supposed to be. Still, his performance was excellent.

Gyu Ri is an ace student who feels the pressure from her parents about her future. She finds escape to rebel and have something of her own when she discovers about Ji Soo’s operations. Park Joo Hyun did a nice job with her character, who was extremely annoying at times.

Min Hee is dating the bully of the school. However, as she is pretty much paying for his expenses, she starts to think that he is only dating her for her money. Money that she gets by working as an escort. But, after she gets in trouble, she finds it hard to keep going. Jung Da Bin is a child actress who can handle her parts smoothly and she didn’t disappoint in this one either.
