Flavour it’s yours had interesting premises, but got boring quickly.
Story
After an accident she had when she was a kid, Bu Zui has lost her sense of taste. However, after accidentally meeting Wei Xun and kissing him, she discovers that she can taste again. Ecstatic by that, she starts eating everything that she couldn’t savor all these years. However, her happiness doesn’t last for long, as an angry Wei Xun finds her and demands his taste sense back.
Wei Xun is an acclaimed wine critic and he is not only popular for his amazing skills, but his good looks as well. However, when it comes to personality, Wei Xun is cold and distant to everyone. Nevertheless, their new circumstances find both Wei Xun and Bu Zui, the polar opposites, to have to work together in order to not only keep the public in the dark about Wei Xun’s inability, but to try to find a way to restore both their taste buds back as well.
Flavour it’s yours did start a bit cliche, with the boy and the girl colliding and “accidentally” kissing, a theme that most chinese rom coms tend to use these days.
Nevertheless, the mystery behind the leading lady’s past and inability to taste, as well as the reasons why Wei Xun was the unlikeable character that he was forced to be, were both interesting storylines to follow.
The couple was, moreover, cute together and they had a smooth chemistry that helped the entertainment of the drama a lot. However, the side characters were unmemorable.
Plus, after the mystery with the wine was discovered and the couple got closer, the drama got boring, as there weren’t many surprises left on the writers’ arsenal.
The romantic moments of the couple were cheesy as well and the romance felt all over the place. The taste exchange was messy too.
Characters
Bu Zui is a friendly, energetic girl who lives with her father, an old winemaker. They are struggling financially and Bu Zui is trying hard to support her family. In addition to her miserable life, Bu Zui has to live with no sense of taste, something that changes after she kisses a mysterious stranger accidentally.
Ireine Song‘s character tended to be annoying at times, but, overall, she was enjoyable. She did look awfully young though.
Wei Xun is a rich wine taster who comes from a renowned family of wine critics. And even though he appears cold and unapproachable, he is, in reality, lonely and thirsty for love and recognition from his family.
Simon Gong was swoon-worthy and he did a good job with his performance.
Cinematography
The drama didn’t handle the pace very well, though the mystery was well constructed.
Overall
My overall rating for the chinese drama Flavour it’s yours is 6 out of 10. The drama was cute, but they didn’t handle everything right.
