Story

Se Yeon and Cha Min had been friends for years. Se Yeon is beautiful, successful and a heartbreaker. Cha Min is rich, but he is not confident about his looks. When his fiance leaves him, Cha Min tries to commit suicide. However, he is revived into another body, giving him a second chance to live by the abyss. He can also carry around marble with him that can revive the dead. Now, Cha Min is a handsome young man who is popular, but everyone that he knows thinks that he is actually dead.

Meanwhile, Se Yeon is attacked and murdered in her apartment. When Cha Min learns about his friend’s death, he rushes to revive her. However, when Se Yeon comes back she has changed into a less spectacular body. Now, she is the one who can’t match Cha Min’s looks. But, their looks are the least of their problems, as there is a serial killer on the loose, who’s somehow connected to Se Yeon’s murder. The two friends will start a long and dangerous investigation to find out who is behind everything.

The drama didn’t have a strong start and it didn’t get better, unfortunately, as the story proceeded. The story was interesting as a concept, with the abyss and the serial killer case, but it got boring after a while. We knew who was behind everything, and when that was solved, there was yet another bad guy out there with less evil personality and thus, less interesting story.

The only thing that kept things amusing was the romance, that ended up going in circles, a bit like a game of hiding and seeks really. And the ending was just short of cliche (like Kdrama cliche). I guess the whole drama was boring, although the fantasy element was handled pretty well. However, they never really explained the whole abyss thing properly. Another thing that didn’t work for it was that they just had to add too many elements in it and followed too many plot branches that resulted in a tiring and half baked drama. On the plus side, the actors had chemistry and the background stories were interesting and dramatic. That dark mood of the drama was a nice touch to the somehow bland drama.

Main characters

Characters

Se Yeon was a confident, beautiful woman who was revived with a more common appearance. Nevertheless, she is still sassy, dynamic and always gets what she wants. Park Bo Young is an amazing actress, but I can’t say I loved her last two drama choices so far. However, here, she was funny and adorable as always.

Cha Min is a smart, rich man who is less comfortable with his looks. After his fiance leaves him, he thinks that he has lost everything, including the will to live. However, he is given a second chance in life, with an improved appearance this time. Ahn Hyo Seop is proving to be one of the popular leads currently active in dramaland. His performance here was perfect, but the script didn’t let him actually shine.

Cinematography

The drama didn’t handle the pace very well. However, the SGI were good.

Overall

My overall rating for this drama is 6 out of 10. It was boring for most of its duration and there were only a few parts of it that were entertaining.
