A drama with two strong leads that failed, however, to keep the interest high.
Story
Bok Soo was a high school student who loved to draw and lived his life to the fullest. His grades, however, were on a free fall. Therefore, his teacher assigned the class’s president, Soo Jung, to help him with his studies. Bok Soo was in love with her, but Soo Jung thought of him as the class’s clown. However, they eventually grew closer and closer, to the point that they decided to date. That is until Bok Soo’s friend, Se Ho, the new boy who didn’t have any friends until Bo Soo approached him, was pushed off the school’s roof. Bok Soo was accused of pushing him, even though he pleaded innocent. However, both Se Ho and Soo Jung claimed that he did it. Thus, Bok Soo was kicked out of school.
Years later, Bok Soo is taking up various odd jobs to get by, along with his two best friends. Se Ho is the newly assigned principal of the same high school, where Soo Jung is working as a teacher as well. Se Ho, after an incident with a student that harmed the school’s image, decides to manipulate the public’s opinion for them by taking back Bok Soo to finish high school. Bok Soo is surprised, and he hates the idea of going back to school. However, more than that, he hates his first love and ex-best friend for ruining his life. So, he returns to take revenge on them.
Now, the story sounds pretty intriguing, doesn’t it? However, those events happened only in the first few episodes. The events of the past and the mystery behind Bok Soo’s crime are quickly revealed and after that, the story was just boring. The romance was an odd one as well. Bok Soo was supposed to hate Soo Jung, but he helps her out and it is obvious that his feelings aren’t that negative, even from the first episode. Also, the school politics, the bad rich families and their genius children, the poor teachers and the lower in the rank students, all didn’t offer much entertainment with the twists and plots against each other. Also, the romance was tiring and uninteresting.
Characters
Bok Soo is a man whose life was ruined by the people he valued the most. Their betrayal made him untrusting, but he didn’t lose his ability to care for others and help them out. Yoo Seung Ho is an amazing actor and he couldn’t possibly fail to provide top-notch performance for his character. He was both convincing, likable and adorable.
Soo Jung is the “villain” of this story. However, it is obvious from the start that she is struggling to get by and her life wasn’t smooth either. She is mistreated and she is finding it difficult to pay off her debt and support her ill grandmother. Her past is not what it seemed as well. However, overall, Soo Jung was an annoying character. Not that Jo Bo Ah didn’t provide, but the script just ruined her character.
Se Ho is a complicated character. He is the bad guy, the rich principal who just hates Bok Soo. However, he is not just a crazy villain. He also has a tragic life, as his mother hates him and he was never properly loved. Se Ho’s character was probably the only thing interesting in this drama, along with Bok Soo. Kwang Dong Yeon was just amazing in this one, looking like a psycho most of the time, but growing into another tragic character with a sad story.
Cinematography
Even though the cinematography was just the basic drama shooting, it didn’t, however, manage the pacing well and it resulted in a boring start and a boring drama overall.
Overall
My rating for this drama is 6 out of 10. I do love Dong Yeon and Seung Ho and they are both two of my favorite actors because their performances are always professional and just award-wining quality. However, the drama was boring.
