Korean Drama Heartbeat is a light paranormal romance

Story

Woo Hyul is a vampire who, in order to become human, attempts to sleep for a hundred years. However, just before he reaches the crossing line, a human girl, In Hae, accidentally wakes him up. As a result, Woo Hyul now is only half human and he is forced to learn how to survive in the modern world, with the reluctant help of In Hae.

Korean Drama Heartbeat is a fantasy comedy with some romance thrown in the mix.

The drama is indeed funny, with Woo Hyul being in trouble more often than not because of his set ways and the way he sees things, a way that expired a hundred years ago. His adventures with money and modern technology were hilarious and enhanced the bickering between him and In Hae.

As for the romance, it is enjoyable, though predictable. However, the drama didn’t focus too much on it in the first half, letting the couple get to know each other more organically.

The fantasy element was, in addition, well-handled, but the main villain was boring.

The ending, moreover, was bittersweet, but a letdown when it came to the buildup.

Cinematography

The drama did a good job with the fantasy elements, the costumes, and the CGI.

Overall

My overall rating for the Korean Drama Heartbeat is 6 out of 10. Though the romance was so so, the comedy part was spot on.
