Story

Yeon Seo is a half-vampire who wants nothing to do with her vampire side and tries hard to blend in with the humans and live like them. However, when a classmate, Meo Ru, who is in love with her, is starting to be recognized as the one, because of his blood which is sweet to every creature around him, she will have to fight for him as well.

Korean Drama The Sweet Blood is a Twilight-inspired story, that starts nicely, with some interesting concepts being introduced, but the ending was a lukewarm unsatisfying conclusion.

First thing first, the romance was okay, but was mostly one-sided, with close to non moments, and some intensity due to the love triangle that was forced on the characters. The love triangle itself was saved by the second lead, who did a great job and was also an interesting character, despite the bad makeup.

The blood-vinery was, in addition, a nice touch. However, they didn’t explore it as much as it was needed, probably due to the short length of the episodes and the romantic focus they wanted to extend more than the rest of the genres. The whole mythology of the one was not in-depth presented either. Plus, it would probably have been better if the family story of the girl was also better and further explained.

As for the school storyline, that was interesting, as it created some friendships between the characters. The relationship of the second lead with the girl was also pretty enjoyable.

Unfortunately, the ending was just not satisfying. Actually, the drama started getting messy towards the ending, as it had too many plot lines to follow and too little time to conclude them all. So, the ending was rushed, and the main story was resolved way too easily.

Characters

Yeon Seo is beautiful and friendly, but, in reality, she hides her true identity. She doesn’t want to be a predator like her father, and tries hard to live an ordinary human life.

Song Chae Yun was great as the main lead.

Meo Ru is an ordinary high school boy, who has a crush on Yeon Seo. He is protective towards her and he even stays by her side and wants to help her after he learns the truth about her.

Kim Eo Jin did a good job as the sweet love interest.

Ji Woo is Yeon Seo’s fiance. He is a ruthless killer who can charm everyone in order to get what he wants.

Kim Ji Woong was very charming, but they ruined him, otherwise, well written character with that makeup.

Cinematography

The pace of the drama was fast and smooth, but the whole vampire universe was not well handled. The short mini dialogues in the end of each episode were a nice touch though.

Overall

My overall rating for the Korean Drama The Sweet Blood is 5 out of 10. The theme of the drama is oldish but it had it’s good moments.
