Mo Mi, now in prison, has left her daughter, Mi Mo to be raised by her grandmother. However, Kyung Ja has already her eyes on her. She keeps creating trouble around Mi Mo, making her think that she isn’t enough while presenting herself as her only ally and friend.
Thus, when Mi Mo gets in trouble and is expelled from school, she runs away from home and goes to Kyung Ja, who takes her in. But, soon, her real motives are revealed, as she binds Mi Mo and locks her in a room at the back of her house.
All the while, Mo Mi promises to give her kidney to Eun Suk, a bully at her prison, who needs it for her daughter. But, while at the hospital, Mo Mi, who knows about Kyung Ja’s plan, after the elderly lady visited her at the prison under the disguise of a bible reading club, escapes and is on her way to save her daughter. Her mother and Mi Mo’s friend are also rushing to her rescue.
And as Kyung Ja is planning to kill Mi Mo and videotape her death, as revenge on Mo Mi for her son’s death, Mi Mo’s grandmother arrives and fights with Kyung Ja.
Ye Chun, Mi Mo’s friend, also makes it there and unties her friend, while Kyung Ja kills her grandmother. But Mo Mi manages to arrive as well, fights with Kyung Ja, and shields her when the old lady tries to kill her. The police, who were trying to find runaway Mo Mi and have come to Kyung Ja’s place, kill Kyung Ja in return.
After that, Mi Mo lives with Kyung Ja’s family and she even discovers Mo Mi’s childhood videotapes, where she does what she loves: dancing.
Overall, Korean Drama Mask Girl is pretty dark and isn’t afraid to kill off its characters and take the more suspenseful route. Even the ending was quite dark and it fitted the story overall. But the final scenes leave the viewer with a bittersweet taste of a young Mo Mi, full of potential that could have had a very different life doing what she really loved to do if society and her own mother hadn’t clipped off her wings.
