Taiwanese Drama Rainless Love in a Godless Land is a feast of mythological themes
Story
Tian Di has always been thinking of herself as lucky, as she follows any superstition and animistic belief. However, she will soon find out that her destiny is tightly linked to the future of the world.
Taiwanese Drama Rainless Love in a Godless Land is a fantasy drama with many twists and many mythological beliefs.
The story centers mainly around Tian Di, the leading lady, and her guardian, the Orad, as she discovers that she is connected to the future of a dying world. On that main core, more deities and animistic legends are added to create a plethora of nicely packed little elements that are unique and interesting.
The main story is also pretty engrossing, with an intense and sweet romance that didn’t have plenty of lovely moments as a couple, but those that they had, were overloaded with chemistry and cuteness.
However, at some point, the drama started becoming repetitive. And the mythological elements that kept being added got a bit too many, lagging the drama in the final episodes.
Still, the twist, in the end, was well handled and unpredictable. The focus on the leading lady and how she was the key to solving the mystery was another plus for this drama. In addition, the environmental sensibility was another aspect that gave some further food for thought.
Characters
Tian Di is working as a tour guide. She is optimistic and loves her city and its history.
Joanne Tseng was delightful to watch and she handled her character masterfully.
Orad is a deity that is Tian Di’s guardian. He seems cynical and overconfident, but he cares deeply about others and the planet.
Fu Meng Bo had heaps of chemistry with his partner and he had an enjoyable character.
Cinematography
The drama handled the mythological part in a way that didn’t get confusing. Plus, the pace was perfect, and the mood was beautifully atmospheric.
Overall
My overall rating for the Taiwanese Drama Rainless Love in a Godless Land is 7 out of 10. The drama had a wonderful fantasy story to show.
