Korean Drama L.U.C.A: The Beginning has an ambitious start, but it goes downhill fast.
Story
Ga Reum has been looking for answers about her parents’ disappearance for years without a real lead, until her team investigates a murder case that involves a man named Ji Oh. But Ji Oh isn’t human. And Ga Reum is certain that he and his makers are behind her parents’ case.
Korean Drama L.U.C.A The Begining had an interesting story prompt that was indeed nicely handled and explained, though it used many of the cliches of the genre, like the evil leaders with a plan to control the future, brainless soldiers following every command, an anti-hero and predictable twists.
The start was also strong, dark, and intriguing. The action scenes were also enjoyable and well-acted.
However, the drama started declining after the first episodes. And after episode eight, everything went downhills at a lightning speed. It was like watching a whole different genre, from a dark sci-fi action thriller to a house on the prairie mood.
The ending was frustrating, in addition. It was open, though probably the writers wanted to make it edgier and to give a darker twist for an ending. But, nevertheless, it was rushed and not handled with care.
Characters
Ga Reum is a police officer who wants to solve her parents’ disappearance case. She is willing to sacrifice her career, lie and follow only her instincts in order to get closer to the truth.
Lee Da Hee‘s character was endearing at times, as she was selfish and annoying, but she did great with her performance and her action scenes.

Ji Oh is a man who is living without knowing his past. He more than once has woken up with no memory but a few clues of who he is. He, thus, doesn’t care about anyone and goes through life surviving on his own.
Kim Rae Won was a questionable choice for this role due to his age, but he shined through this character.
Lee So is an ex-army man who has been saved from prison and assigned to work for an organization, with the mission, now, to look for Ji Oh and bring him back. He hates him due to some past encounters with him and he wants to take his revenge.
Kim Sung Oh was really enjoyable as the villain.
Cinematography
Thhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqchbhPVsuse drama had nice CGIs, well choreographed fighting scenes, dark settings and fast pace.
Overall
My overall rating for the Korean Drama L.U.C.A.: The Beginning is 5 out of 10. The drama had a strong start, but it was disappointing after those first episodes.
