Chinese Drama Perfect and Casual presented a heartwarming romance triggered by a contract relationship

Story

Yun Shu discovers that the man she had collided with in a cafe, turned out to be her professor of statistics, professor Zhang. And her misfortune doesn’t stop there. Because of him, she doesn’t manage to graduate, hence, loosing a job offer, and she also gets scammed by her cousin and ends up homeless, as she gave him all her money to buy an apartment, that turned up to be professor Zhang’s home.

So, when he asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend to satisfy his grandfather’s dying wish, she agrees, as it also involves landing her a room to sleep as she gets her things straight. Their contract relationship will turn into a contract marriage, when cold pragmatist Zhang starts warming up towards bright and friendly Yun Shu.

Perfect and Casual is perfect for a contract marriage drama, with a casual feel to it. The length was just right and enough to present the whole relationship, with its up and downs, but with no over the top, boring drama to it.

However, the side couples were just okay. The sister with the superstar had potential, but was not well paced and ended up being a filler for the main romance. The two friends’ love story, on the other hand, should have taken a more realistic turn towards the end, due to all those hints that the drama kept popping here and there.

As for the main romance, the pace was right, the two main characters were adorable and had chemistry, and they had plenty of cute, romantic moments. Their relationship didn’t start organically, sure, and it followed some old techniques, but it was delightful to watch and the love story didn’t manage to get tiring.

Characters

Yun Shu is a university student who is just venturing into her adult life. However, she keeps finding misfortunes ahead of her. Still, she remains optimistic and she keeps having faith in people.

Xu Ruo Han was adorable and she gave a smooth performance.

Zhang Sinian is a protegee and a young professor, who is cold, realistic and a pragmatist. However, he adores his grandfather, and when he falls sick, Sinian is devastated. That soft side shines when he starts living with Yun Shu, who is the complete opposite of him.

Miles Wei had nice chemistry with his partner and did a great job with his cold but cute character.

Yun Lan is Yun Shu’s sister. She is successful, intelligent, but criticizes Yun Shu for her choices and way of life.

Marguax was a sweet second lead.

Cinematography

The pace was cleverly handled and the atmosphere that the drama created was just right for the story.

Overall

My overall rating for the Chinese Drama Perfect and Casual is 7 out of 10. The story was sweet, though the side romances were just okay.
