Story

Mikuri is a young woman who can’t find a stable job. She has gotten frustrated at her career possibilities and she decides to take a break from the job seeking.

That is when she becomes the cleaning lady for bachelor Hiramasa. Hiramasa is a very private person who doesn’t open up easily, but he gets to feel at ease with Mikuri. So, he suggests that she and him to have a contract marriage.

Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu or we married as a job, was a nice contract marriage drama.

It leaned more on the slice of life than actual romance, as it presented the two characters and the way they found to communicate with each other and coexist.

The drama had a slow pace, in addition, which helped with the development not only of the characters, but of the relationship as well.

The romance was sweet as well, slow and realistic, without many romantic moments, but more human and real.

Characters

Mikuri is a young woman who is energetic and full of life. She wants to work, but she finds it hard to get a job after graduating. She ends up working as a cleaning lady for bachelors, something that actually gives her fulfillment and she enjoys it.

She bonds with her client, Hiramasa, as they start acting more like a married couple than employee employer. But, after getting married to him, Mikuri starts wanting more from her contract husband than he is willing to give.

Aragaki Yui was excellent in this drama and she had nice dynamics with her partner.

Hiramasa is a loner who enjoys his isolation. He is peculiar and a difficult character, as he doesn’t open up to others easily. He is very private and shy, but he finds comfort at Mikuri’s company. However, he isn’t sure if he can give her the intimacy that she wants.

Hoshino Gen gave an enjoyable performance.

Cinematography

The drama had a smooth pace and presented the story nicely. Key point are the dance breaks at the end of the episodes.

Overall

My overall rating for the Japanese drama Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu is 8 out of 10. The drama is a realistic view on a couple’s relationship.
