Big Boss is a smooth school comedy.
Story
Mu Xi is a tomboy who loves superheros and action movies. She lives with her brother and has just entered high school. However, she discovers, on her first day, that her mortal enemy since childhood, Dan Yi, is also at the same class as her.
And worst, he is ready to take on the duties as the class’s president. That is when Mu Xi decides to ran as well, and, unexpectedly, she wins. Now, she is the big boss and she will have to take care of her classmates.
The Big Boss had plenty of comedy moments.
The leading lady was delightful, with an energy that pretty much overshadowed everyone.
The concept with the magical themes was interesting. However, in the second season (after episode 18) they tended to recycle themes.
Still, the whole vibes of the drama were the refreshing. The friendship of the students was nicely presented and built, and their adventures as the low league of their school, were entertaining.
The drama kept things clean of romance, until that very first episode, where they just teased about a potential future romantic twist. But, overall, the drama was mainly comedy, with some touching moments and beautiful friendships.
Characters
Mu Xi is an energetic young girl who has a strong sense of justice. She often acts childish and she seems to be living in her own fantasy world. But she is loyal and can do anything for her friends.
Eleanor Lee was amazing. Her performance was top notch and she was entertaining to watch.
Dan Yi is a straight As student. He is clever, but he tends to be arrogant. He is Mu Xi’s mortal enemy and they hate each other.
Huang Jun Jie had nice chemistry with his partner, but he often was overshadowed by her.
Xiao Dong is an idol who finds it difficult to have a normal life, as his adoring fans are always stalking him. However, in school, he finally gets a chance to be a normal teenager.
Dai Jing Yao was a nice second lead and he gave a smooth performance.
Shan Qi used to hate school and she prefers staying at home and reviewing products on her social media. However, after she finds out that her idol, Xiao Dong, has joined their class, she does everything to have him notice her.
Lu Yan Qi was a good supporting lady and she was quite funny as well.
Cinematography
The drama did a good job with the fantasy parts and they handled the comedy masterfully.
Overall
My overall rating for the Chinese drama The Big Boss is 8 out of 10. The drama is really funny and the leading lady is amazing.
