My youth follows the well-known path as all those chinese school dramas out there, with the only exception of the well-concluded story.

The three main characters

Story

Can Can is a bright, funny girl who is in love with Jia Ze. However, she ends up being a desk partner with the bully of the school, Tian Ye. Slowly, Can Can gets to know Tian Ye and realizes that he is not the bad boy that everyone thinks he is. And Tian Ye falls in love with her. However, he can’t confess to her, as she is still trying to win Jia Ze’s heart. Eventually, all of them end up in the same college, continuing their friendship and love story.

The drama was light, funny and cute. The love story was very sweet, although, towards the ending, it falls into the cliche trap and it gets a bit dramatic. However, the couple had chemistry and they were adorable together. Even the side stories were good and the couples of those had nice endings as well. It was also enjoying the way they blended the friendship part with the love story, and thus the drama didn’t focus only on the romance part and didn’t get boring. Another thing that worked for the drama was the pacing. The story was revealed slowly and the drama followed the characters from high school to college to work-adulthood.

Characters

Can Can is a positive, cute girl, who, however, doesn’t manage to keep up with her studies. She is friendly and sees the best in people, as well as a big music fan. Li Jia Qi had some funny moments, and her performance, although not flawless, was decent.

Tian Ye the dark prince of the drama. He has the bad boy image, but he is sweet, loving and caring in reality. He falls in love with Can Can and he is always there to help her out, even though he can’t be with her. Zhao Yi Qin was the perfect choice for this character and he managed the singing scenes beautifully.

The drama had nice pacing and the love story was nicely presented.

Overall

My overall rating for this drama is 8 out of 10. It is a light drama, with a sweet love story and it’s packed with nostalgic notes.
