Much better than the movie, but with an open ending.

Story

Takuma and Mayu had met in a hospital when they were kids. Mayu is the daughter of Takuma’s doctor, who is treating him from a terminal heart illness. Takuma lived all his life knowing that he is not going to make it. That’s why he pushes Mayu away. However, Mayu loves him and she is determined to stay with him till the end.

The drama explored the characters better than the movie and it presented the side stories nicely as well. The love triangle was interesting too. With some breathing space, Takuma and Mayu’s relationship had time to mature and grow. The character development was nice too. However, even though the drama did everything to give us closure to what there is to happen, the final episode left things undone, leaving the ending to the viewer’s judgment.

Other than that, the drama had a nice development and it showed many aspects of the two leads’ life and not just their love story. The characters got to experience friendship, love, heartache, misunderstandings and school life activities as well. The addition of the innocence of youth blended well with the heaviness of the story and made it easier to watch. However, the side stories were a bit cliche.

Takuma is a sweet boy who is diagnosed with a terminal illness, giving him a few years to live. That’s why Takuma likes to be alone, not making any connection with anyone, as he has made peace with his condition. However, after living as a normal teenager, he starts wanting more. Nomura Shuhei was really good as Takuma and his performance was very emotional.

Mayu is a bright, energetic girl who is in love with Takuma. And, even though he keeps pushing her away, she doesn’t give up. Sakurai Hinako was excellent. She was adorable and she handled the dramatic scenes beautifully.

Cinematography

The drama was almost perfect, presenting the story nicely, except for the ending, that was really nerve wrecking.

Overall

My overall rating is 7.5 out of 10. The drama was sad enough and the romance was really good.
