A Poem a Day is a quite drama, with a sweet story that features lyrics and poetry as it revolves around doctors and their everyday struggles.

Story

The story focuses on Bo Yeong, a young physician who had a dream once to become a poet. However, due to financial struggles, she had to give that dream up. During her studies, she met Min Ho, whose parents were both doctors. She falls for him, but he turned her down. Years later, she works in a rehabilitation clinic, where Min Ho is appointed as a trainee. However, now Bo Yeong starts to have feelings for their new team leader, Jae Wook, a quite doctor with a painful past when it comes to relationships.

So, the plot is more romantic than medical. The love story, as well as the love triangle, takes over from around the middle and all the way till the end. Not that it is not interesting, as you crave to see if Jae Wook will return her feelings and if Bo Yeong choose him or Min Ho. However, the medical cases take second lead on this one. They were few and scarce, some of them unfinished and most of them start with no background or any other information on the patients’ stories. The other characters’ struggles and everyday lives, as well as their past, get less and less airing time as well, even though they were entertaining and some of the characters were interesting to watch.

Characters

Bo Yeong was a nice character overall. She liked poetry and enjoyed the small things in life. Her love story was pretty good too. Lee Yoo Bi did a great job portraying her and she didn’t overdo it with the teary scenes, which was a relief.

On the other hand, the drama is packed with male actors. Defcon was a nice addition, as his character along with his trainee were a light break from the heavy romance. Lee Joon Hyuk was a delight to watch, making the perfect doctor, with enough charisma and all the qualities to make him a competitive lead. Jang Dong Yoon as the second lead was the perfect antagonist, holding the second lead syndrome high till the very last episode.

Cinematography

The scenes were simple and kind of foggy, mostly due to the fact that the drama wanted to great an idyllic atmosphere. The poems that appeared slowly towards the ending or when they were needed were a nice touch, making the drama memorable as well as adding to the aesthetics.

Overall

A poem a day presents a sweet and warm story, massed up with some interesting slice of life stories. It is recommended for those looking for more than just a light drama to watch but not the heavy law or melodrama ones.
