Story

Hwi Oh and Min Kyung meet on their way to their therapist. He is treated for anger issues. She for compulsion and trust issues. Right from the start, their relationship is based on misunderstandings and mutual dislike. They are even neighbors, which makes things even worse. Slowly, however, they start understanding each other and helping one another overcome their problems.

Korean Drama Mad For Each Other is short but does miracles when it comes to storytelling and embedding multiple stories, wrapping them nicely in a fancy, bright packaging.

The story starts with an uplifting, comedy vibe, as the two main characters meet and interact. Right then you get to sympathize with the male lead and get annoyed by the girl. However, the drama turns the tables around, as it deepens into the girl’s story.

That more insightful look into the characters’ background, brings up issues that are not easily dealt with by light rom coms. Thus, the drama, while maintaining the comedy mood, brings up issues like dating violence and psychological impact, a crime mystery, family expectations and relationships, gender identity, acceptance, online bullying, even love bonds.

The comedy element, moreover, helps the story keep up the fast pace and bond everything nicely together, without overwhelming the audience.

As for the romance, that was pretty much realistic considering the situation of both parties. The ending was, however, a bit cliche and too fluff, though it doesn’t ruin the whole drama overall.

Finally, the side characters were a nice touch, as they added the necessary funny bits, helped propelling the story forward, and gave the characters a chance to open up when it was needed.

Characters

Hwi Oh is a police officer who, due to an incident, is being dismissed while he is being treated for having anger issues. He is a spontaneous man who yells a lot but cares about those around him.

Jung Woo TV comeback after a while was pretty smooth and he had nice chemistry with his partner.

Min Kyung is Hwi Oh’s neighbor. She is always looking over her shoulder, as she has trust issues and she believes that she is in constant danger. Therefore, she tries to appear crazy to others to protect herself.

Oh Yeon Seo did a great job with her character, especially with the dramatic scenes.
