Risky Romance is a medical drama that focuses more on the characters than the medical cases. Actually, there hardly were any medical cases at all.

Story

Seung Joon is a famous doctor who has a really bad temper. Apparently, he got into an accident years ago, in which his best friend died. Since then he had been experiencing pain when he feels something really strongly, like love, and he can’t control his hormones. Meanwhile, he mourns for his best friend’s death, for which, he believes, his girlfriend was to blame. That’s why when he accounter In Ah, a new doctor who’s friendly with everyone and eager to help, he, believing that she was his friend’s girlfriend, starts a crusade to get revenge.

So, then a series of male treatments towards In Ah starts. In results, she ends up resigning and she tries to open her own clinic. However, Seung Joon isn’t going to let her rest. He pays off her sister’s depths and he moves in with them, demanding them to pay him off.

As an idea, the story sound nice and fluff, a cute romantic story that will have plenty off funny scenes and a series of silly mishaps until the characters fall in love. However, the drama liked to avert that genre more towards the drama type and thus, the tragic background stories, Seung Joon’s condition, family drama and so on took the place off petty revenge actions.

Maybe things would have gone better if they had added some medical cases in the plot. They were doctors after all. But, the medical stories were only a few and they were presented hastily. The development of the romance was odd as well, as they forgot for a while Seung Joon’s condition and then they remembered it again. Also, it didn’t make sense for Seung Joon to start warming up to In Ah out of the blue when he simply hated her. Finally, the last episode had a quick conclusion in a few scenes and it didn’t really give a satisfying ending.

Characters

Seung Joon is a violent doctor who has angry outbursts towards everyone, patients, co-workers, friends, and especially In Ah. He was extremely violent towards her and he even hit her. His actions towards her were childish and he even almost ruined her career, without even apologizing in the end. I can’t say that Ji Hyun Woo is my favorite actor. His acting is okay, but I did find him a little overboard sometimes. His romantic scenes were nice, but the angry scenes were not that good.

In Ah is a very optimistic character. You either like her or feel sorry for her. She has a very tragic family drama story and she blames herself for most of it. She is, however, always ready to help the others and she looks like that she is a promising doctor. Her romance with Seung Joon was cute, and it was more rational for her to feel attracted to him. She is kind of the victim though. Lee Shi Young was nice in her character and she was warm and sweet, as well as funny at some points.

Cinematography

The hospital settings were okay and they looked realistic. The overall cinematography was nice, though the action scenes, like the ones of the accident, were a little overplayed with the slow motion.

Overall

My final rating for this drama would be 6 out of 10. It was enjoyable, but the characters and the story were a little too much.

In the final episode at the end, who’s baby was that. I was confused by that because it didn’t make it clear.
