Story

Jae Hee married Joon Hyuk, the illegitimate son of Sung Jin Group, just to rise up socially, leaving her long-term boyfriend Jung Ho and her judge father. She is now the head of the art museum owned by the corporation and she is trying to get her husband into presidency. However, her seemingly perfect life is anything but and Jae Hee is constantly battling for her place against her mother-in-law.

Korean Drama Artificial City is a makjang. It takes up too many plotlines, however, it fails to deliver.

First, the viewer is introduced to the Jung family and their queen, Han Suk, Jae Hee’s mother-in-law, and her secret room where she hides everyone’s secrets. She will give the key to that room to Jae Hee in order to prove herself.

Then, the story moves to Lee Seol, a woman working for Jae Hee, and her secret mission to bring Jae Hee’s husband down.

Things get out of control after that. Jae Hee’s and Lee Seol’s relationship was probably what was the enjoyable part of the story, though it wasn’t as shocking as the characters and the drama made them be.

The ending was a big twist and it was original, though one would have thought that the drama’s purpose was to have those who were at fault pay for their crimes. Alas, that did not happen, but it was an interesting take on things.

Characters

Jae Hee dreams of stability that only money can provide, as she believes. And she is ready to do anything to maintain her position and raise up in power.

Park Soo Ae gave an enjoyable performance.

Joon Hyuk is Jae Hee’s husband. He has always suffered from an inferiority complex, as he was born out of wedlock and brought into his father’s rich family. Thus, he always tries to play his role as the perfect son and husband, though he has multiple other relationships.

Kim Kang Woo did great with his character.

Han Suk is Jae Hee’s mother-in-law. She is the one moving things around when it comes to politics and high society. And she is not ready to give up that role.

Kim Mi Sook was dominant in her every scene.

Lee Seol works for Jae Hee at the art museum. She seems to be getting closer to Joon Hyuk, though she has become a person Jae Hee trusts and confines into. She, however, has many secrets.

Lee Yi Dam did an excellent job with her character.

Dong Min is Joon Hyuk’s junior. He looks up to him and he wants to uncover the truth in any way possible.

Lee Hak Joo gave another great performance.

Watch Lee Hak Joo in his other dramas KDrama Sweet Munchies, KDrama My Name, KDrama The world of the married, K Drama Mr. Sunshine, K Drama Memories of the Alhambra, and KDrama : Be Melodramatic

Jung Ho is Jae Hee’s ex. He is a lawyer, working for a rich man, but helping Jae Hee out with her schemes.

Lee Choong Joo was the surprise of the drama.

Cinematography

The drama had a messy pace and the last episodes were boring.

Overall

My overall rating for the Korean Drama Artificial City is 5 out of 10. The drama had too many ideas that were not completed.
