Story

Yeon Woo is colorblind, a strange condition that only a few have and most of them go crazy and get obsessive over the only people who can give them the colors back. Thus, Yeon Woo is always scared that he will end up just like them, and he spends his time checking himself and living a quiet life. But when he moves to a new school, he meets Yoo Han, and everything changes. Yoo Han is a popular student who seems to be trouble. Yeon Woo knows that, but he can’t resist letting him come close to him, as that means that Yeon Woo can finally experience color.

Korean Drama Color Rush has an interesting plot prompt. The whole world of color blindness, their struggles, as well as Yeon Woo’s family mystery, were all intriguing and meticulously presented.

However, by watching the drama, it’s obvious that all these plot lines aren’t completely explored. Rather, it feels like they are only the introduction to them, before the actual action kicks in.

The drama also presents the complicated relationship between Yeon Woo and Yoo Han. And they did a great job making the filming and camera work look edgy and cinematheque. Unfortunately, that approach did not help the story.

The love story got confusing and didn’t have a smooth flow. It was more pretty flashes of color and light and moody scenes than a well-paced romance.

The characters were, on the other hand, pretty interesting. They had depth, at least that was implied, and they were complicated, on top of solid background stories.

Unfortunately, even though the family drama had potential, the mystery was never resolved. If this drama ends here, then a lot of questions are left unanswered. But, if there is a second season, then maybe things will get clearer.

Characters

Yeon Woo is trying to live his life as normally as possible. He has his mother’s advice to help him navigate his everyday life while sees only shades of grey, white and black. He is always conscious and quiet, trying to stay out of trouble. However, after meeting Yoo Han and gets a taste of color, he can’t help but want more.

Yoo Jun gave a nice performance, especially in his dramatic scenes.

Yoo Han is the popular boy in his class. He is an idol trainee, he’s got the looks and the attitude, even though he looks like a bad boy, and all these make him irresistible. But his sassy image hides his true tragic story.

Hur Hyun Jun was pretty good for his first time acting.

Cinematography

The drama had some beautiful scenes, but the story got lost in the innovative editing.

Overall

My overall rating for the Korean Drama Color Rush is 3 out of 10. The story seemed good on paper, but the editing was confusing and there were a lot left out.
