Thai Drama Review : Girl Next Room – Motorbike Baby

Title : Girl next room: Motorbike Baby

Episodes : 6

Genre : Romance, College, Past, Secrets, Friendship, Drama, Tragedy, Comedy

Story : 6 out of 10

Characters : 7 out of 10

Cinematography : 7 out of 10

The first part of the Thai rom-com series, Motorbike baby did a decent job paving the way for the next ones.

Story

Sundae moves into a dormitory, after taking a year off from starting college. She is very shy and likes things to be in order and just like she wants them. But, on the first day of college, she meets Mile, a popular student who is famous for his online covers and songs. Mile takes interest in shy Sundae and tries to make her open up to him. However, as the two of them start getting closer, Sundae’s ex-boyfriend, Tan Khun, comes back into her life and brings back both sad and happy memories.

The first part of the series introduces the viewer to the dormitory, with the strick dormitory lady, her funny son, the friendly guard, and some of the characters that will star in the next installments.

For this story, Sundae’s love story was okay, but it was more interesting to watch the mystery about what happened in the past between her and Tan. Her family’s story was a dark one as well, as her mother was a vague character, and her brother seemed a bit odd from the start.

Tan’s family, on the other hand, was a group of goofballs, especially the father, who was one of the best parts of the drama, along with the landlord’s son’s rap gig.

The love triangle, in addition, was well paced and managed overall, but it was kind of predictable. The romance got a bit tiring towards the end as well.

Characters

Sundae is a shy girl who is introverted and doesn’t like big crowds. She has been deeply hurt in the past and she is still trying to overcome it. Thus, she can’t trust people easily. Mook Worranit Thawornwong was super cute and she did a good job with the dramatic scenes.

Tan is a boy who, having a poor background, is working hard to make something of himself. He loved Sundae and he still cares for her and wants to protect her, even if his actions aren’t always that gentle. Toy Pathompong Reonchaidee gave a nice performance, even though his character got a bit annoying towards the end.

Mile is a popular student, who is always followed by girls and fans. He sings at a band and makes online videos too, which add more to his popularity. Still, he is down to earth. He starts liking Sundae because of her shy character and cute personality. Fluke Gawin Caskey was a nice second lead, especially in the first part of the drama.

Cinematography

The drama had a quick pace, but they kind of messed up the story towards the ending, as they were rushing to end it. However, they handled the back and forth masterfully.

Overall

My overall rating for Girl next room: Motorbike baby is 6.5 out of 10. The drama had a nice vibe, though it was a bit dark at some points.
