Doctor Song has finally made Luna trust her and she discovers that her mutant cells are immune to the lunar water, as, after she was infected, she doesn’t get sick due to Luna’s bite. Thus, the team uncovers that the scientists on the lunar base, after finding the lunar water, were trying to find a way for the organisms coming in contact with it to withstand it.
That is why they created Luna. That truth is revealed from Doctor Song’s sister’s vlog that she left behind, explaining that she did what she did in order for her sister to have a chance to see the sea.
Meanwhile, Captain Han confronts Lieutenant Ryu, who has gone rogue, as he was on the original moon team, and he was amongst the ones who locked everyone in the base to die, while they escaped. And now, he gets infected as well.
And, as the team takes Luna with them and are about to leave, having successfully arranged for a ride back to earth, the lunar station starts erupting and filling in with water. The team barely escapes, but only with Captain Han’s sacrifice, who stayed behind in order to give them a chance to leave. In the end, Captain Han dies as the spaceship lands to take everyone home, including Luna.
The overall atmosphere of the drama was pretty hectic and suspenseful, and that translated to the bittersweet ending. In a way, though, it was appropriate for this kind of story, though the drama as a whole left out the exploration of who were the characters, in order to help the viewer connect with them. Nevertheless, the ending was quite intense.
