Story

Princess Zhao Hua is the perky, spoiled daughter of the emperor and Wei Ying Luo. She is betrothed to a Mongolian prince, who, however, cancels the wedding, due to her free spirit and often mood swings. Even though the princess doesn’t love him, she feels offended, and she wants to make him fall in love with her, so that he will go through with the marriage. So, she takes the advice of imperial guard, Fu Kang An, who has been teasing her for a while now. Due to a scandal, he was punished by the emperor to be lashed, but the princess had saved him. That’s why the princess thinks that Fu Kang An is helping her because they have a connection, but he, in fact, has another card up his sleeve. He is actually helping her antagonist, Princess Siwan, who wants to steal the Mongolian Prince from her. And that’s because he wants to take revenge on Zhaohua’s mother.

The drama takes you right back to the Yanxi palace, with all the intrigues and dramas and love tragedies. The well-known characters were back too, though the main focus of the story was the new princess. Her love adventures were pretty entertaining and the final conclusion of them was pretty original, fresh and a nice touch to the drama. However, the final episode, with the ghost palace, the crazy act and such was a bit confusing, questionable and odd. It probably needed more episodes to be well developed and have some proper explanation about what was happening and why it was happening.

Characters

Princess Zhaohua is moody, feisty and selfish. She likes to take out her anger on others, like her fellow princesses, and the servants. However, underneath all that anger and arrogance, she is a scared little girl, who yearns for love, attention, and excitement. Rain Wang was the star of the whole drama, dominating every scene, whether it was a haunting crazy one or a beloved cute princess.

Fu Kang An is a man on a mission. He believes in himself and his looks and uses that high self-esteem to navigate himself into the heart of the princess and make her trust him, in order to use her for his revenge. Not my favorite character, right from the start, but Wang Yi Zhe was really good, especially towards the ending, with the dramatic scenes.

Cinematography

The drama had a nice atmosphere, but it was rushed towards the ending.

Overall

My overall rating is 7 out of 10. It was an interesting drama, but the ghost story was a bit off.
